In this issue of The Compass Rose, a newsletter keeping you in the know as to the whereabouts of Tennessee Rose, I want to share some highlights from Flip Factory events thus far.
I’ve been documenting events since on my Instagram. Check out video of talented producers, singers, artists and more that have taken the stage with Flip Factory!
Flip Factory is a collective of producers that explores music of all kinds, flipping sounds sampled from records, and mixing them into something completely new.
EXPLORING A NEW SOUND THROUGH ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTS: MASCHINE MK3
Back in 2020 amid the shutdown I was tinkering away on some new song ideas. When I picked up the Maschine MK3 by Native Instruments I was intending to use it for live shows with my band, Opel. I played a few shows with this setup, but ultimately I had to return to borrowing my bandmate’s Korg Workstation. Dragging around a midi controller, my computer and the Maschine became a stage plan nightmare, not to mention the anxiety of getting everything set up correctly in between set times. I needed something plug and play.
So, the Maschine remained at home where I continued to explore its potential. Fast forward to 2026 and those experiments have evolved and with a push from my friends in Flip Factory, I’ve been cookin’ up some new tracks that will be part of a full album! Named Planets, this album is my soundtrack for a journey through space, whether you’re evading asteroids or floating beyond Earth’s gravitational pull. BEAT MASCHINE
When I’m not singing while doing the dishes, I’m mashing drum pads. This is an electronic album inspired by the solar system, which was previewed at the Women’s Showcase in March. I’m still finalizing some songs.

As mentioned, new songs are in the works and what better to move the process along than encouragement from a fuzzy friend? I adopted Yuzu in March and she’s been keeping me awake. I mean inspired!

Find me at Open Mic Night, last Thursday of the month at Urban Food Brood! 6:30-9pm! I will be attending other Open Mics, such as The Rendezvous in Turners Falls and Ciro’s in Springfield, so stay tuned!
